Behind the Craft (behindthecraft.com) is run by Peter Yang. This page explains what I collect and why. Short version: I collect as little as I can, I don’t sell anything, and your files and emails stay in your own AI app.

What I collect

  • Your email address. You log in with your email, and I check it against Substack to confirm your paid membership. I store a one-way hash of it for logins and analytics, and an encrypted copy for the Peter connector so it can re-check your membership.
  • Login links. When you log in, I store a hashed, short-lived login token so the link works once.
  • Basic site analytics. I use Vercel Analytics to count page views. I also log sign-up and login steps (like which page you came from and campaign tags in the link) to understand what’s working. These records use a hashed email, not your address.
  • Peter connector data. If you install the Peter connector, I store which lessons you’ve started or finished, short notes about your progress (never personal details), when you last checked what’s new, and connection tokens (only as hashes). I also log which connector tools were used and whether they worked, with an anonymous member key and no arguments or content.
  • AI tool offers. If you claim a partner offer, I record which code went to which member so codes aren’t handed out twice.

What I don’t collect

  • I never see the files, emails, calendars, or documents your AI app reads during a lesson. That stays between you and your AI provider (like OpenAI or Anthropic), under their privacy policies.
  • I don’t see what you type to your AI app, other than the lesson or page it asks the connector for.
  • I don’t sell or rent your data, and I don’t run ads.

Who else is involved

  • Substack handles payments and your subscription.
  • Vercel hosts the site and runs analytics.
  • Supabase stores the account data above.
  • Partner companies in the AI tools section get your details only if you choose to redeem an offer with them, under their own terms.

Your choices

  • Disconnect the Peter connector anytime in your AI app’s settings.
  • To delete your connector data and progress, reply to any of my newsletter emails and ask.
  • Cancel your membership anytime in Substack.

Changes

If I change this policy in a way that matters, I’ll note it on the What’s new page.
